Egypt to Export 2.7mn tons of LNG This Winter: BNEF Forecast

LNG

BNEF revised down its forecasts for LNG exports out of Egypt during this winter to 2.7mn tons, or around 41 cargoes, from 4.4mn tons forecasted earlier in October, after the Israel-Hamas conflict caused a halt to natural gas pipeline flows from Israel to Egypt.

  • During last winter Egypt exported 4.5mn tons of LNG.
  • So far in October, Egypt shipped two LNG cargoes, one of which was loaded after the start of the conflict in Israel.
  • Egypt typically exports LNG during the winter month to Europe and Turkey, with Spain and Turkey likely to be most affected by the decline in shipments.
  • Northwest Europe and Italy are also likely to lose cargoes as the share of Egyptian LNG to the region rose to 20% last winter, from 13% a year earlier due the increased need for LNG following the halt to Russian gas pipeline flows.
