Egyptian Petchem Company to Import US Shale Gas

One of Egypt’s largest petrochemical companies plans to import US shale gas to address a shortage in natural gas supplies that forced some petchem producers to shut down twice in June, Reuters said.

  • Sidi Kerir Petrochemicals is being set up as a consortium to import US shale gas and liquefied ethane gas.
  • Egypt has moved to a net importer of natural gas this year, having already purchased 20 cargoes of LNG for the summer months to try and avoid blackouts during peak power demand.
