Electoral Court Gives Ex-President Zuma Green Light To Participate In Election

  • The Electoral Court sided with former President Jacob Zuma who appealed against the Independent Electoral Commission's (IEC's) decision to disqualify him from the upcoming parliamentary elections. Zuma will now be allowed to appear on his MK Party's ticket, which represents another setback for the ruling African National Congress (ANC), who are worried that the MK Party could drain some of their support and complicate the uphill battle for keeping its parliamentary majority. All the ANC's attempts to have the MK Party de-registered over procedural matters and the use of the name and logo of the ANC's defunct military wing have failed so far.
  • Times LIVE cited experts who said that it would not be feasible for Eskom to implement loadshedding beyond Stage 10. This came after National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) published contingency plans for loadshedding of up to Stage 16, while Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said that the plan was merely an "insurance measure" to communicate that the system operator is prepared for the ultimate worst-case scenario.
  • The rand printed its best levels this year on Tuesday amid continued demand for gold and a strong SAGB auction.
