Emergency Meeting Of For. Mins. Called For 10 Oct To Discuss Israel Violence

EU

European Commission High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell posts on X "I am convening tomorrow [10 Oct] an emergency meeting of EU Foreign Ministers to address the situation in Israel and in the region." In the wake of the Hamas attacks on Israel a number of EU member states have both voiced their support for Israel while announcing a cessation of humanitarian aid to Palestine.

  • So far, Austria and Germany have announce the suspension of aid, although this number could rise in the coming hours or days amid the continued hostilities.
  • According to the FT, "The EU is a major donor to Palestine, and has pledged €1.18bn in financial support from 2021 to 2024." It remains to be seen how these funds could be affected by the conflict and whether Brussels would receive requisite support from member states to scale back or halt these funds.
