EMISSIONS: EUA Funds Positioning Turns More Bearish Fourth Consecutive Week

Speculator positioning in EU ETS futures on the ICE exchange turned more bearish for the fourth consecutive week with net short positioning increasing to the highest since late July, latest COT data as of 20 September showed.

  • Investment Funds net short positionings increased by 1,744 to -23,286
  • Investment Firm net short positionings edged lower by 219 to -349,648.
  • Commercial Undertaking net long positionings edged higher by 599 to +291,850 – highest since mid-December 2022.
  • EU ETS Dec24 prices showed another weekly decline last week, weighed on by declined in the EU natural gas markets and mild weather, while the 30 September 2023 allowances submissions deadline is keeping a lid on losses.
