UK: Employers start to plan for future with rise in recruitment intentions (The
Times)
- Business confidence is lifting itself off the floor as the economy emerges
from lockdown. In a survey of 2,000 businesses across the UK a net balance of
-46 per cent of respondents told the Recruitment & Employment Confederation that
they were optimistic. The reading, though still bleak, is an improvement of 17
percentage points from May, meaning that although businesses remain negative
about the outlook, pessimism is easing. The stronger outlook is having an impact
on hiring intentions, with a growing number of businesses saying they plan to
expand their workforce over the next three months. A net balance of 6 per cent
of respondents said they would increase recruitment, up 11 percentage points
from May.
