Erdogan, Putin Hold Phone Conversation; Manufacturing Confidence Rises in March

  • President Erdogan held a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the weekend, Hurriyet report. A statement by the presidential communication office said the two leaders addressed bilateral ties while Erdogan thanked Putin for his positive stance regarding the extension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
  • The Democrat Party’s deputy chairman said if the main opposition alliance comes to power, a damage assessment commission will be established for public finances, Ekonomi report him as saying. They will also remove the requirement that exporters sell 40% of their earnings abroad to the central bank, he said. Meanwhile, Imamoglu and Yavas, mayors of Istanbul and Ankara respectively, will serve as the vice presidents if the Nation Alliance wins the presidential polls, Kemal Kilicdaroglu stated.
  • Turkey's manufacturing confidence rose to 105.2 in March from 102.4 in February, according to data released by the central bank this morning. Adjusted manufacturing confidence was 104.1 while capacity utilization was 73.5% (Prior: 75.2%).
  • President Erdogan will speak in the Adiyaman province today at 1400 GMT/1600 local time.
