Eskom Delivers State Of The System, Committee Explores Options For Putin's BRICS Visit

Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) yesterday held a meeting with Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan, who denied de Ruyter's claim that he sanctioned an off-the-books private investigation at the company.
  • News24 reported that an inter-ministerial committee led by Deputy President Paul Mashatile is exploring "technicalities" that could allow Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the upcoming BRICS summit in person, despite an ICC arrest warrant issued against him. This was confirmed by Zane Dangor, the Director-General of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), who testified to a parliamentary committee yesterday. Dangor cited the fact that the arrest warrant was issued by the ICC directly rather than through the UN Security Council, raising the question of whether it waives Putin's diplomatic immunity.
