POWER: EU Energy Firms Aim to Accelerate Offshore Wind Storage Solutions

European energy firms including RWE, Vattenfall and TNO, have launched the Offshore Electricity Storage Technology Research (OESTER) project to accelerate offshore wind storage technologies, TNO said this week. 

  • The initiative is looking to evaluate key technologies including batteries integrated into wind turbine monopiles, medium-term storage solutions such as pumped hydro storage co-located within wind farms and longer-term solutions such as electrolysers.
