EU Gas Demand Stood 15.8% Below 2019-21 Average In March

Gas consumption in the EU – excl. some member states – stood at 15.8% below the 2019-21 average in March, compared with 11% in February according to Bruegel.

  • Gas demand in March saw the largest decline compared to the 2019-21 average in Estonia, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Latvia.
  • In most member states gas usage of industries declined sharper compared to the average than demand for households.
  • European Union has agreed a target to reduce gas demand by 15% from August 2022 to March 2024.
