EU Inks Deal For Gas Buying Platform

The EU has signed a deal with Prisma European Capacity Platform GmbH, moving ahead with its plan to start joint gas purchases as part of its response to gas price increases and the goal to limit the dependency on Russian gas imports according to a document seen by Bloomberg.

  • The EU planned to find a platform provider before the end of January.
  • The bloc is aiming to create a “buyers cartel” of gas companies to stop countries competing for supplies.
  • Joint gas purchases are targeted to start well before summer, with demand pooling mandatory for 15% of the refilling needs of reserves over the summer.
