EU LNG Regas Cap Utilisation to Hold Above Pre Crisis Levels: Timera

LNG

LNG regas capacity utilisation is expected to remain above pre crisis levels of 30-50% in the next three years but below the 73% average seen in 2022 despite further expansion in capacity according to Timera Energy.

  • An increase in European regas capacity by around 20% since Oct 2022 is greater than the increase in LNG import volumes. The disparity is causing a drop in aggregate regas terminal utilisation in 2023 from the very high levels seen in 2022.
  • Aggregate regas capacity utilisation held mainly in the 70-80% range in 2022 with even higher utilisation in continental NW European terminals.
  • Increased global LNG supply from 2025-29 and falling of domestic production and pipeline imports will support future utilisation.
