EU looking for deal to import gas from Israel

  • EU is working on a deal to import Israeli gas via Egypt. The gas production from Israel would be piped to Egypt for liquefaction into LNG before shipping to EU.
  • The potential agreement between EU, Israel and Egypt would also increase collaboration on clean energy projects and would require the backing of EU member states.
  • The EU continues to look for alternative sources of gas with LNG the likely source for additional supplies.
  • European countries are rushing through plans to increase LNG import capabilities with numerous countries securing floating LNG regas vessels and/or planning longer term onshore regasification terminals. Germany, Italy, Greece, Poland, France, Finland and Estonia all have plans to increase LNG import capacity.
