EU Meeting on Sep 9 Aims to "Fix" Energy Market

The Czech Republic has called an extraordinary meeting of EU energy ministers to discuss a solution to the spike in power markets.

  • They will debate measures to tackle the energy crisis including proposing to cap prices of natural gas used for power generation according to Industry and Trade Minister Jozef Sikela.
  • The energy market “has stopped functioning and we have to fix it,” said Sikela on Monday. The industry minister said we have to separate gas prices from electricity prices and that companies are not selling due to fear of having to cover margins. The main aim now is returning the energy market to normal, pushing prices down to bearable levels for European industry
  • The meeting will take place in Brussels on Sept. 9.
