EU Plans to Extend 15% Gas Demand Reduction Until 2025

The European Commission is proposing the adoption of a Council recommendation to extend European natural gas demand saving measures of 15%, compared with the April 2017 to March 2022 levels, by one year until 2025, according to a document.

  • The current legislation is set to expire on 31 March.
  • The new proposal will be discussed by Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson and EU Energy Ministers at the Energy Council on 4 March.
  • EU natural gas demand fell by 18% between August 2022 and December 2023 vs the average.
