EU Sanctions Required to End  Poland Supply Contract from Russia

Poland is looking to stop purchases of Russian oil but Climate Minister Anna Moskwa has reiterated that sanctions are needed to end the existing Russian oil contract.

  • Transneft said Russian oil flows to Poland in January are planned at 500k tons.
  • An existing contract between oil refiner Orlen and Rosneft will end in early 2023 and won’t be renewed but another contract with Tatneft is still valid and only sanctions would be able to end it.
  • Poland is hoping that comprehensive sanctions on Russian oil will be discussed at next council meeting and any exceptions would need a compensating mechanism.
