EU Storage Injections Fall to 27% Below Normal Last Week

NATURAL GAS

European natural gas storage injections have fallen to about 27% below normal over the last week with total gas in store up to 76.42% full on 26 June according to GIE data compared to the five year average of 60.3%. German storage levels are already just below 80% full.

  • Net European storage injections have averaged about 2,710GWh/d in the week to 26 June compared to the five year average for the period of nearly 3,740GWh/d.
  • Net injections have been about 80% of the five year average rate this season since 1 April but are still on track to comfortably reach the EU 90% full target before winter. An injection rate holding at 80% of the previous ten year average over the summer would bring storage up to the target by 18 August. Even the lowest injection rate seen in Q3 in the last ten years would reach the 90% target by 6 September.
  • Storage in Germany is at 200.6Wh (80.0% full), Italy is at 158.2TWh (81.1%), Netherlands at 110.1TWh (77.3%), Austria at 79.1TWh (81.6%) and France at 80.6TWh (61.1%).
