EU Storage Withdrawals Increase but Still Below Normal

The gas withdrawal rate from European storage has increased in the last week to help cover the higher heating demand but remains just below the five year average rate.

  • The average withdrawal rate late last week was around 6.7TWh/d (0.58% per day) compared to the average of about 7.5TWh/d (0.65% per day) at this time of year.
  • Total European storage levels were above the five year range at 78.35% on 21 Jan according to GIE AGSI data and compared to the five year average of 77.69%.
  • The countries with the largest gas storage volumes are Germany at 213.33TWh (86.52% full), Italy at 147.80Wh (76.41%), France at 98.37TWh (73.63) and Netherlands at 101.24Wh (72.87%).
