  • EU warns of actions against Ankara in its next meeting (2-3 September) if Erdogan does not reverse the partial re-opening of the fenced-off Cyrpus town of Varosha.
    • Borrell said that the bloc "strongly condemns Turkey's unilateral steps and the unacceptable comments by Erdogan on 20 July."
    • Also noted Turkey's actions are contrary to UNSC resolutions. EU's warning comes following commendation from the UNSC, US and Greece last week
  • Turkey's Foreign Ministry hits back at EU comments saying Borrell's remarks are disconnected from the facts on the island and only reflect the view of the Greek Cypriots.
    • FM spox says the plan to partially open Varosha is complete and the decision belongs to the TNRC
  • Defense Min Akar calls on Greece to disarm Greek islands that have non-military status through treaties – asking for political solutions, rather than aggressive ones.
    • Says Greece refuses to give up provocations and continues ignore the Lausanne and Paris agreements.
