Europe Pushed to Net Gas Withdrawals This Week

Gas storage sites across Europe are slowly turning to net withdrawals after a warm October/early November granted an extended grace period according to the IEA.

  • Monday marked the first day of the current heating season when withdrawals outweighed injections, with a small margin of 6 mcm - this is almost a month later than usual.
  • The withdrawal was primarily driven by the Netherlands and Germany, with both markets facing slightly colder temperatures and impacted by lower Norwegian exports into Europe amidst unplanned outages at the Ã…sgard and Visund fields.
  • Warmer weather and an increase in Norwegian flows may push Europe back to a few more days of injections through the latter half of November.
