Europe to Import Record US Gulf Crude in March

OIL

Europe is set to import a record 1.84mb/d of crude from the US Gulf Coast in March according to tanker-tracking and port agents data. The total March volume of 57.1mbbls is the highest since the US lifted the crude export ban in 2016.

  • A total of 19.5mbbld on 22 tankers has already arrived with another 38 tankers carrying 37.6mbbls expected before the end of the month.
  • The strong imports have combined with blockages at French refineries to push spot differentials of various Atlantic basin crude grades lower. The North Sea Ekofisk differential is the lowest in nearly five months according to Bloomberg sources.
