European Refinery Highlights Early September

REFINING

European refineries are set to take a total of 900,000 bpd of crude distillation capacity offline this September for maintenance according to IIR Energy.

  • European crude imports are arrived at their highest pace of the year in August according to Vortexa, reflecting higher summer demand. Meanwhile, crude/condensate floating storage in the region is in decline, falling to early 2024 levels.
  • Orlen’s Unipetrol expects to resume full operations at its Litvinov refinery at the beginning of next week according to CTK news agency reports. (updated Sep 3)
  • Rotterdam’s fire authority said it had been informed by Exxon about a “small incident” at the company’s Rotterdam oil refinery. (Sep 2)
  • Spains Petronor Bilboa, Spain refinery in process of shutting its G3 desulphurization unit for 20 days maintenance – (official statement) - (Sep 2)

  • TotalEnergies Antwerp, Belgium – FCC and other key units restarted late August after slight blip Aug 24 – (IRR – Aug 28)
  • TotalEnergioes Feyzin, France – reformer unit had a fire, quickly extinguished – (Le Progres – Aug 27)
  • TotalEnergies plans to proceed with a planned turnaround from September at Leuna, Germany lasting till November (Bloomberg sources – Aug 22)
  • The Leuna work will coincide with a planned turnaround at Shell’s (Godorf) Rheinland plant near Cologne that started late Aug.
  • Production at OMV AG’s Burghausen refinery in south Germany is currently hobbled following a leak late Aug.
