European Storage Injections Before End of Normal Withdrawal Season

The latest GIE data shows net injections into European natural gas storage at the end of last week before the end of the traditional withdrawal season. Weather in NW Europe is set to be mixed with cold today giving way to above normal temperatures this week before cooling again during the first few days of April.

  • European gas in storage is at 56.04% according to GIE data from 25 Mar compared to the five year average of 34.1%.
  • Net injections were around 1,500GWh/d on 24 and 25 March compared to a normal small withdrawal rate for this time of year of approximately 600GWh/d.
  • The countries with the largest gas in store volumes are Germany at 160.99TWh (64.44% full), Italy at 111.70TWh (57.74%), Netherlands at 81.97TWh (59.0%), Austria at 64.37TWh (67.55%) and France at 38.18TWh (28.57%).
  • TTF is seeing support today driven by the cooler weather and the storage injections and with concerns for the slow return of Freeport LNG in the US also adding support.

    • TTF SUM 23 up 3.3% at 43.55€/MWh
    • TTF WIN 23 up 2.4% at 51.6€/MWh
