Eurozone Construction Output Slides For 3rd Straight Month

  • Eurozone construction output slumped by 1.7% m/m in June, the third consecutive fall, Eurostat said Wednesday. Output in May was revised sharply downward to -0.4% from the originally-reported +0.9%.
  • Over the year to June, construction rose by 2.8%, down sharply from a 12% y/y rise in May and a 45% surge in April.
  • Output declined between May and June in most of the eurozone's leading economies, slumping 2.6% in Germany (the third consecutive monthly fall), declining 2.0% in France and plunging 3.6% in Spain.
  • Over the second quarter, construction rose by 0.8%, exceeding the 0.6% rise in the opening months of 2021.
  • Building works increased by 0.7% between April and June, while civil engineering improved by 1.4%.
