Exxon Considers LNG From Guyana

LNG

Exxon Mobil is considering the option to produce LNG in Guyana, according to Bloomberg.

  • A gas focused development is being weighed as an option for Exxon’s seventh Guyana project, country manager Alistair Routledge said Feb. 21.
  • Exxon will drill five wells in the Southeast portion of the Stabroek block to better understand what are “substantial resources” of gas.
  • “We do think that LNG needs to be in the mix because there’s no large market nearby within an economic range of pipeline infrastructure,” Routledge said.
  • Guyana’s government is also keen to begin exporting gas, with Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo saying it was imperative that Guyana develops its estimated 16 Tcf of gas resources.
  • “We believe that we can find enough gas there to now monetize it,” Jagdeo said.
