Fiala Looks Through Pressure to Act on Food Prices

  • Fiala’s coalition government can handle the strain of the current increase of food prices, according to the Prime Minister, with the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee set to discuss the issue as soon as today. The comments come as the government comes under increasing pressure from the opposition to act further against inflation, but the PM continues to rule out fixing of prices or the removal of VAT from food goods.
  • Over the weekend, CTK reported that the finance ministry are set to consider two rates as part of their VAT reform, in an attempt to further bolster the budget.
  • CNB minutes are due later today at 9am local time (0800BST). The bank also confirm their FX transaction activity later this morning, with the March international reserves release.
