Final Election Candidate Lists Are Out, Local Data Eyed

  • The Daily Maverick reported that the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has to certify the lists of candidates for the upcoming elections by Friday to then start printing ballot papers. The institution was dealt two legal setbacks yesterday, as the Electoral Court overruled its decision to prevent ex-President Jacob Zuma from running in the elections and challenged its decision to limit the number of places where South Africans can vote abroad. The final candidate lists have already been published, with Jacob Zuma topping the MK Party's list.
  • In its latest update, Eskom announced that loadshedding will remain suspended until further notice after two consecutive weeks without power cuts. The utility will provide another update on Sunday afternoon.
  • South Africa will release SACCI Business Confidence (10:30BST/11:30SAST), mining data (10:30BST/11:30SAST) and manufacturing production (12:00BST/13:00SAST).
