Finance Minister Says Registering Strong Growth Pace In Key Sectors

  • Fin Min: Peru Relies On Good Growth Pace In Key Economic Sectors (Andina)
    • Economy and Finance Minister Pedro Francke on Tuesday stressed that Peru is registering a good growth pace in key sectors of the economy, adding that they lead to job creation.
    • "GDP growth in September was 9.7% higher than the previous year, which was very particular due to the pandemic. There are several important figures to highlight; for instance, the farming sector has grown 11.5%, higher than last year and 14.8% higher than in 2019," he expressed.
    • He also pointed out that the industrial sector (non-primary manufacturing), has grown 12.7% last month.
  • Gov't to promote new approach for relations between mining firms and population (Andina)
    • The Peruvian Government seeks to promote a new approach for active and positive relations between mining companies and populations in areas of influence, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) reported on Wednesday after ruling out the unilateral closure of mining operations.
    • The approach aims to address the concerns of communities and environment protection.
  • Separately, Prime Minister Mirtha Vasquez on Tuesday affirmed that health and healthcare are a priority in the Public Sector Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2022, on which —she remarked— work has been done by consensus with Parliament. (Andina)
    • In her presentation before Congress' plenary session, the Cabinet chief said the sector will see an increase of 6% in its budget, exceeding S/22 billion (over US$5.5 billion) for the protection and care of both health personnel and patients. It is linked to the acquisition of medicines, oxygen, and all necessary medical supplies.
