Finland Prepared for Potential Russian Gas Halt

Finland’s emergency preparedness committee has told the Finnish media today the country is prepared in the event that Russia cuts off it's gas supplies.

  • "Finland is prepared for a suspension of Russian natural gas imports," according to the committee statement.
  • The committee had warned that gas supplies could have been cut off as soon as today but so far flows have remained based on Gasgrid Finland remarks.
  • Finland is facing Russian gas uncertainty because of its commitment to try and join the NATO military alliance this week as well as its refusal to pay for Russian gas in roubles.
  • Finland has connections to the European gas network and only imports limited volumes of Russian gas.
