Finland Risks Power Shortage This Winter Amid Nuclear Outage Extension

Finland could risk some power shortages in January, as one of the country’s nuclear reactors has been delayed by almost one month, grid operator Fingrid said.

  • “Naturally, the uncertainty about the final schedule of Olkiluoto-3 increases the risk of electricity shortages in the winter season”, Fingrid system manager Tuomas Rauhala said.
  • The commercial start of Finland’s 1.6GW Olkiluoto-3 nuclear has been delayed to 22 Jan, from 27 Dec previously scheduled. Test production could continue on 11 Dec the earliest, Finland’s nuclear operator TVO said.
