    • A fire has erupted on a Pemex-operated platform offshore Mexico, causing the death of one person and injuries to several others while some are still missing. The incident comes less than two months after a fire on the ocean surface dubbed the "Eye of fire" broke out near Pemex' Ku Maloob Zaap oil development
  • Hurricane Grace left at least eight people dead in its passage across Mexico's Gulf Coast state of Veracruz, where it brought flooding and mudslides, blew down trees and billboards, and knocked out power. (Dow Jones)
    • The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Grace quickly weakened to a tropical storm as it churned over mountainous areas in central Mexico east of Mexico City and then dissipated at mid-afternoon.
  • Mexico is seeking formal consultations with the U.S. over rules for cars shipped across regional borders under a year-old trade agreement as it seeks de-escalate a conflict that emerged last month.
    • The Mexican government wants the talks in order to avoid or settle a potential dispute over the requirements the U.S. is imposing on motor-vehicle producers. (NP)
