Firmer Still, BTPs Outperform

EGBS

Comments from ECB Governing Council member Simkus fail to impact EGBs/EUR STIR, with the pull away from session lows in bonds/least dovish STIR levels extending a little further.

  • Simkus’ comments are generally in line with his prior policy signals. Back in late January he noted that he was “confident data won't support a cut in March” and “rate cuts more likely as year progresses.”
  • As noted elsewhere, lower crude oil, positioning and outright yield grab may be at play at current levels.
  • Also note that 10-Year BTPs outperform EGB peers on the rally, alongside an uptick in Euro Stoxx.
