LNG

The first of several floating storage and regasification vessels (FSRU) that will increase LNG import capacity in Germany arrived yesterday off the Baltic Sea port of Mukran.

  • The 4.5bcm/yr FSRU vessel Neptune arrived on Nov 23 and is due to be operational at the privately owned Deutsche ReGas facility in nearby Lubmin on Dec 1.
  • On Nov 19 the energy regulator granted the project exemption from tariff and network access regulations for 20 years to increase competition.
  • Deutsche ReGas says a recent tender for annual regasification capacity of 11.7bcm was oversubscribed, with bids totalling 15.2bcm.
  • Other floating storage and regasification units are scheduled to arrive at the North Sea ports of Wilhelmshaven and Brunsbuettel later this year.
