First Kazakhstan Tengiz Oil Shipped from Ceyhan port in Turkey

Kazakhstan’s has sent Tengiz oil from the Turkish port of Ceyhan for the first time as the country seeks to reduce its Russian dependency and diversify supply routes.

  • A tanker loaded 83.2k tons (or 665kbbls) of the oil at the Ceyhan port according to Azerbaijan’s Socar on Sunday.
  • The oil was sent from Kazakhstan’s Caspian Sea port of Aktau to Azerbaijan’s Sangachal terminal and then pumped into the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline.
  • Kazakhstan’s oil supplies from the Port Aktau to Baku, the main single route bypassing Russia, rose to 163,436 tonnes in January – March from 28,875 tonnes in the same period in 2022.
  • The next batch of Tengiz oil at Ceyhan is due to be loaded at the end of May.
