First LNG Cargo Arrived at Piombino Terminal in Italy

The first cargo of LNG has arrived at the regasification terminal in the Italian city of Piombino according to Eni.

  • It has begun offloading the first LNG cargo delivered to the Snam-operated FSRU facility which is due for commissioning this month.
  • The Golar Tundra FSRU will increase Italy’s LNG import capacity by 5bcm and will remain in Piombino for three years before moving to a different location to be chosen by Snam within 100 days.
  • The regasification facility is one of two being planned in Italy to help increase Europe’s LNG import capacity for LNG. A unit near Ravenna is expected to become operational at the end of 2024.
