OIL: First Oil Shipment from Kashagan to Azerbaijan Leaves

Kazakhstan’s Kashagan oil field has sent its first oil shipment to Azerbaijan’s Baku KazMunayGas said on Monday.

  • It comes as Kazakhstan seeks to reduce its reliance on transit via Russia.
  • "The Kazakh tanker Taraz with Kashagan oil left the port of Aktau for Baku," the company said in a statement on Telegram. "The oil will then be transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline system to the Mediterranean Sea."
  • An agreement to phase in higher exports via Azerbiajan was signed in March last year.
