UK DATA: Flash PMIs (Jan 2019) Preview - 09:30 GMT 24/01/20
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Composite PMI: BBG: 50.7; Prev (Dec): 49.3
- Manufacturing PMI: BBG: 48.8; Prev (Dec): 47.5
- Services PMI: BBG: 51.1; Prev (Dec): 50.0
- Analysts look for the composite PMI to tick up slightly in Jan after having
moved sideways in recent months
- The manuf PMI is forecast to remain contraction for the ninth month running,
despite the projected uptick to 48.8 in Jan.
- The service PMI is expected to rise by 1.1pt to 51.1, which would be the
highest level since Jul 2019
- Survey evidence such as the CBI industrial trends and the Deloitte CFO survey
suggest a substantial improvement in optimism in Jan.
- While positive survey results and a strong labour market would support an
unchanged Bank rate on Jan. 30, falling retail sales and weak inflation together
with a weaker than expected PMI could support a rate cut.
