FM-'FIN NATO Decision Affects Us', Doesn't Confirm If Sweden Will Follow

Speaking to Swedish radio, Foreign Minister Ann Linde states that the announcement from the Finnish president and PM that the country should seek NATO membership without delay 'naturally affects' Sweden.

  • She does not confirm whether Stockholm will follow suit, but it appears increasingly likely that both Nordic nations will seek to have a fast-track application process in place.
  • Linde tweets: "Important message today from Finnish President & PM on NATO membership. Finland is Sweden's closest security & defence partner, and we need to take Finnish assessments into account. Sweden will decide after the [parliamentary] report from the security policy consultations has been presented."
