Focus On Brazil And Mexico Half-Month CPI Data

  • Attention next week will be on half-month CPI inflation data for Mexico and Brazil, which will be of particular interest with monetary policy meetings coming up in both markets in early May. Mexican and Argentinian economic activity data for February will also be released.
    • Mexican economic activity data for February are published on Monday. Activity rose by 1.99% y/y in January. The latest Banamex survey of economists will also be released, while Argentina March budget balance data will cross.
    • On Tuesday, the BCB will publish its weekly Focus survey, followed by Argentina economic activity figures for February. Colombia industrial and retail confidence numbers will also be released.
    • Mexico bi-weekly CPI data for the first half April will take the focus on Wednesday, with analysts expecting the headline inflation rate to edge up to 4.50% y/y, from 4.37%, as core inflation eases to 4.35% y/y, from 4.41%. Chile March PPI inflation will also be published.
    • On Friday, Brazil will release IPCA-15 inflation data for the first half of April, with the headline rate printing at 4.14% y/y last time. Also on Friday, Mexico unemployment and trade data for March will cross, along with March unemployment data for Colombia.
