For. Min. Summons EU Diplos Over NS Incidents As Putin Meets Erdogan

The Russian Foreign Ministry has summoned diplomats from Denmark, Germany, and Sweden over the incidents in the Baltic Sea that saw the Nord Stream gas pipelines suffer notable damage.

  • The Foreign Ministry states that it will not recognise the 'pseudo results' of any investigation of the incidents without the participation of Russia.
  • Comes as Deputy PM Alexander Novak delivers a speech to Russian Energy Week conference. States that 'EU sanctions hurt the regional economy and consumers'.
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin set to meet Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia in Astana, Kazakhstan. No official timings but some speculation meeting could occur around 1630 local time (0630ET, 1130BST, 1230CET).
  • Erdogan seen as likely to offer mediation efforts to de-escalate war in Ukraine. Ahead of the meeting, the Turkish President stated "Our goal is to help stop the bloodshed as soon as possible by maintaining the momentum gained despite the difficulties in the field,"
