Foreign Min-We Are Ready For Serious Dialogue w/Russia On Euro Security

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, speaking at a presser in Moscow following talks with her Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov states that Germany is 'ready for serious dialogue with Russia to increase security in all of Europe'. But says that there are 'major, sometimes fundamental differences of opinion' between Germany and Russia.

  • Says the two discussed ways to restart talks in the 'Normandy format' (quad of Russia, Ukraine, Germany, and France).
  • Contradicts Lavrov, stating that it is hard to see how Russian troops on the Ukrainian border is not a provocation. Says that it is Moscow's decisions that are undermining the European security order and that Germany will defend them 'even if it has a high price'.
  • Baerbock brings up the case of detained opposition leader Alexei Navalny, saying that Germany will also seek to defend human rights in Russia.
