POLAND: Former PM and head of the centre-right European People's Party (EPP)
Donald Tusk has called for citizens to boycott the Polish presidential election,
due to be held on May 10. 
- Tusk, who served as President of the European Council from 2014 to 2019, says
the election should be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 
- Poland has 12,089 recorded cases of COVID-19 causing 570 fatalities. 
- Incumbent President Andrzej Duda, an independent supported by the governing
right-wing Law and Justice Party, is seen as a strong favourite to be re-elected
according to opinion polls.
- The role of the president is largely ceremonial, but they play an important
role in that they can veto gov't legislation. A new president from the centre of
the political spectrum could prove an impediment to the gov'ts conservative
legislative ambitions.
