US: Former VP Joe Biden solidified his already substantial lead in the race to
become the Democratic presidential nominee with wins in the delegate-heavy
states of Florida, Illinois, and Arizona last night.
- Biden now leads left-wing Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in the pledged
delegate count by 1,147 to 861.
- A total of 1,991 pledged delegates are required to win the nomination in a
first-round ballot at the Democratic National Convention (scheduled for 13-16
July, but at risk of postponement due to COVID-19).
- Ohio was also due to hold its primary yesterday, but in the event did not
following the state's health service ordering the closure of polling stations in
an attempt to contain COVID-19.
- Betdata.io, now puts the implied probability of victory in the Nov election as
neck-and-neck between Trump (on 47%) and Biden (on 45%).
