FOX News: If House Doesn't Vote On HR 3684, Mods Could Block USD3.5trn Plan

US

Chad Pergram at FOX News tweets on the difficulties faces by Democratic leadership in Congress in getting any progress on the Bipartisan Infrastructure bill (|H.R. 3684) today:

  • "...the House has scheduled a vote on the bipartisan infrastructure bill. [If] the House doesn't vote today, moderate Democrats could revolt and not support the massive social spending package. A coalition of about 45-50 progressives are threatening to torpedo the infrastructure plan. They argue it is too "conservative." But their main grievances are with Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Joe Manchin (D-WV), trying to water down the social spending package."
  • "The infrastructure bill has at least 10 Republicans, maybe more, who would vote for the infrastructure plan. So there is cushion there for Democrats to lose some of their own and still pass the bill. But some GOPers may bolt if Democrats can't do most of the lifting on their own. Historically, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) usually doesn't bring bills to the floor which would fail."
  • "Her vote counting acuity is so accurate that she often muscles through major bills with the narrowest of margins. She is insisting that the House will vote on the infrastructure bill today. Regardless, even if the House approves infrastructure, there is a ways to go on the social spending plan."
  • "Working out an agreement on that may take weeks - it it gets done at all. So, today is a seminal day when it comes to the future of President Biden's agenda. It also underscores the realities of a 3 vote House margin for Dems and a 50/50 Senate"
