France's Macron Urged Ceasefire In Call w/Putin: Elysee

The Elysee Palace is reporting that French President Emmanuel Macron held a 90 minute phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin earlier today. Macron said to have urged the Russian president to bring about a ceasefire in Ukraine.

  • Elysee says Macron called on Putin to stop attacks on civilians, preserve civilian infrastructure and secure roads. Says that Putin "confirmed his willingness to engage on these three points".
  • Macron is the first Western leader to have talked directly to Putin since the Russian invasion of Ukraine was launched last week.
Comes as talks are ongoing between Ukrainian and Russian delegations at a meeting on the Ukraine-Belarus border.
