France’s EdF Extends Strike Action Until 11 March, Generation Remains Curtailed

France’s EdF announced to extend strike at its power stations until Saturday 11 March and power generation capacity remains curbed by 7.92GW as of Thursday morning, EdF remit data show.

  • Nuclear generation capacity has been reduced by 1.05GW. Output has been curbed at the Flamanville 2, Paluel 2, Tricastin 4, St Laurent 1, and Gravelines 5 reactors.
  • Current hydropower production is curtailed by 6.87GW.
  • At its peak on Wednesday, French power generation has been curbed by 13GW, EdF and Engie data show.
  • French LNG imports remained blocked on Wednesday and three out of four terminals could remain disrupted until 14 March according to Elenergy and the CGT union causing some LNG tankers to divert.
  • As a result, storage withdrawals from gas reserves have picked up. French gas stocks stood at 35.48% of capacity on 7 Mar.
