French Fuel Supply "Normalising": Energy Minister

OIL PRODUCTS

Fuel supply at French fuel stations is returning to normal according to the French Energy Minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher today.

  • Less than 10% of French petrol stations still had supply problems, she said, adding "The situation is normalising. We are no longer in a crisis,".
  • At the peak of supply disruption, over 30% of French petrol stations were short of at least one product. Remaining supply issues are understood to impact the Paris region primarily.
  • At the peak last month, five TotalEnergies and two ExxonMobil refineries were on strike, knocking out around 60% of domestic refining capacity. Only the 117,000 bpd Feyzin refinery remains on strike.
  • A significant proportion of French refining capacity is understood to still be offline as it takes time to return to operations.
  • The end of most strikes last week and the return of Gonfreville this week has eased gasoil spreads. The prompt gasoil spread is down from a peak of 95$/mt on Oct 31 to 40$/mt earlier today.
