French Nuclear Output At 55.4% Of Capacity Since Strike Start

ELECTRICITY

French nuclear generation has been significantly lower at an hourly average of 33.94GW, or 55.4% of the total capacity, since the start of strike action on 6 March, data from Entso-E data and EdF show.

  • Nuclear output in France averaged 33.93GW on 6-15 March during strike action. This compares to an average nuclear output of 42.67GW in February and a total capacity of 61.37GW, data from Entso-E show.
  • The decline in output is partly due to lower availability amid strike action and extended maintenances.
  • Gas-fired generation in the same period also declined, partly due to lower demand amid milder weather. Gas output on 6-15 March averaged 4.9GW compared with 7.04GW in February, Entso-E data show.
  • As of Wednesday afternoon, nuclear reactor availability because of strike action has been reduced by 790MW at the Tricastin 4 and Flamanville 2 reactors, remit data show.
  • EdF’s hydropower generation has been curtailed by 6.4GW because of strike action as of Wednesday.
