French Nuclear Reactor Availability Steady Ahead Of Strike

French nuclear reactors have had steady availability at 42.59GW for the past seven days, ahead of the 48 hour strike-action on 26 Jan, RTE data show.
- French nuclear reactor availability was at 71%, or 42.95GW, this morning, RTE data show.
- The French CGT union has called for a 48-hour strike from Thursday, likely affecting nuclear output.
- During the union’s last strike action on 19 Jan, 5.3GW of nuclear capacity has been affected.
- The forced outage at the 910MW Blayais 3 reactor has been extended by one day to tomorrow and the planned outage at the 1.5GW Chooz 2 reactor has been extended by two days to 1 Feb, EdF remit data show.
- France’s power consumption is expected to peak at 78.1GW on Thursday, during strike action, likely supporting some additional demand from gas-fired plants. Power demand is expected to decline next week, amid milder temperatures, RTE data show.
- The CGT union planned an additional strike action for 72 hours from 6 Feb.
