MIDEAST: From AP: "Turkey and Russia launch joint patrols in a northeastern
Syrian region under a deal that halted Turkey's offensive there."
- Joint Russo-Turkish operations would have previously been unthinkable
political development in the Middle East, given that Turkey is a NATO member

- Emphasises the increasingly powerful role of Russia in the region, where for

US-Saudi alliance. Should Turkey swing towards Russia's sphere of influence over
coming years it could see a notable shift in power in Middle East.

more destabilised Middle East, with US playing a reduced role, raising potential
of supply and price volatility.
